Hello Fellow Shiners,

I hope you are sharing your beautiful light with the world. I wanted to provide a book list that I have found extremely helpful in connecting with my young yogi students. These books are just a few gems I have used in my classes for various purposes. I have often reread a book to teach or highlight a different skill. Please share with me any books you have read with your children that you have found helpful. I am always looking for new titles to incorporate into my classes. Happy reading!!

  • The Lemonade Hurricane: A Story of Mindfulness and Meditation by Licia Morelli

  • Puppy Mind by Andrew Jordan Nance

  • Olympig by Victoria Jamieson (great for perseverance)

  • Charlotte and the Quiet Place by Deborah Sosin and Sara Woolley

  • The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein (great for kindness and gratitude)

  • Little Tree by Loren Long (great for letting go and embracing change)

  • One by Kathryn Otoshi (great for embracing differences)

  • Each Kindness by Jaqueline Woodson and E.B. Lewis (one of my favorites)

  • Yoga Bunny by Brian Russo

  • I Am Yoga by Susan Verde and Peter H. Reynolds

Dr. Seuss Collection

I have used and continue to use Dr. Seuss books because the messages are character-based and rooted in social/emotional well being. Here are some of my favorites.

  • Gertrude McFuzz (great for self esteem and self acceptance)

  • The Lorax (great for love and respect of the environment)

  • The Sneetches (great for acceptance of others and diversity)

  • McElligot's Pool (great for dreaming big)

  • Yertle the Turtle (great for finding your own voice)

  • Horton Hatches an Egg (great for trustworthiness and saying what you mean and meaning what you say)

  • The Boy on Fairfield Street: Ted Geisel grew up to become Dr. Seuss by Kathleen Krull (great for determination and self acceptance)
